These might help you overcome your Past Regrets!
Regret.
A very small word but can weigh Tons.
It is a common emotion among human beings.
Regret mainly arrives when your intelligence comes up with the question of “What If?”
It is the other side of the ocean, which no matter what you do, you will never get to see.
Also, there is a phrase “the grass is greener on the other side”, which somewhat explains the theory behind why we have certain kinds of regret.
As humans, we always believe that the majority of things that we have skipped on to or didn’t opt for, had the potential to make things way better.
They could have produced way better results.
But we forget that when we were taking that same decision, we did everything to choose the best one.
But, we are only human.
This is how we think.
Now
There are a few kinds of regret that we generally have to deal with in our lifetime and according to me, the regret of guilt will always be the most painful one.
We regret things,
Which is had done differently, or had different paths.
Second, we regret things that we have done wrongly.
Regret comes with a negative mental state and self-blame.
We all have been through this.
When we regret our own deeds, we jump straight into self-blame.
You can ignore when people that are blaming you, but how will you run away from your own self.
If you become guilty in your own eyes, then who will stand for you.
This is the reason past guilt destroys every single ouch of a person’s mental health.
A Path of Self Sabotage.
As I said, I am going to share a few small things that I have tried and have worked for me.
I won’t be able to say, whether this can be a permanent solution, but I do know some of these will make a difference in your life.
Note- I am no expert, rather just another guy on the internet sharing things that have worked for him. Please do take professional help if things are serious.
Try to be “Your” Friend
I heard this somewhere that when our best friend does mistakes then you might get angry (at first), but you know, sooner or later you forgive.
Not just for the sake of it.
You actually forgive your friend.
Because at the back of your mind, you know, we are all human.
We are made up of our mistakes.
And Sh*t Happens!
But when it comes to us.
We never forget nor forgive!
I dealt with this, personally. It is still so hard for me to even forgive small, silly mistakes of mine.
I don’t know why we are wired like this, but that is what it is.
Although hard, try and forgive yourself.
I am telling you, this won't happen in a week. This is a continuous process.
At first, you will say that you forgave yourself, but those will be your mere word. You will even feel the hollow words.
It is through sheer force that one day, you will actually, forgive yourself.
Take it a Lesson Learned
Mistakes are the best teacher.
Many well-respected people say that learn from others’ mistakes.
I tried it.
And this is what I felt.
Most of the time, I couldn’t learn from others’ mistakes.
It is just not how I learn things. Maybe it is my fault but it didn't happen.
To be honest, the biggest lessons, that has stuck with me for a lifetime, are the ones that I learned from My own mistake.
These are the ones, from which I had to face the consequences.
From the ones, that hurt me.
These I will never forget, the lessons will stay with me forever.
So, this is what I used to heal myself.
Regret are those which I did wrong or I didn’t do.
I took those as my guide towards making future decisions.
I know, the loss that I took can never be fulfilled, but I can’t change anything now. All I got are the memories and the lessons, that I learned from it.
When you think this way, it might feel very harsh and insensitive because that is what it is.
Life is hard. It always has been.
We all need to accept that.
( I am not talking about mindfulness and meditation practice, since that is a whole topic in itself. Just want to say, these all help a lot)
Stay Active or Get Involved
Exercise is scientifically proven to have an effect on anxiety and depression.
It helps reduce these.
And it keeps you in overall good mental health.
Also, getting involved in something that you might like or enjoy for even the time being can help you cope with those negative emotions.
It can act as a distraction from your negative emotional spiral.
Also, it helps release a chemical that is linked to good mood and happiness, this will help you stay on the positive side of the fence.
This is actually very self-explanatory and I wish, you at least try this one.
Try and Stay Active — In life!
Look, even after saying all these, I know it is really hard, so I want you to say is that — This Too Shall Pass.
Time will Heal.
